Women's Club June Party

The Women’s Club ends our working year in June, with a party for all of our members. This is a chance for us to recap our year, talk about possible projects for the coming year and review our budget. Number one question: How much money did we make?
One of the best things about our June party is the chance to see and talk with members who are not able to get to all of the meetings. In previous years, we have hosted the party in the church parish center. Two years ago, we decided to change it up and “eat out”. I still remember the chatter surrounding this idea.  Everyone agreed this was a nice change and no one would be left to clean up and do the dishes. Hallelujah!

So for the past two years, we have met at Sarnas, a local restaurant in northeast Minneapolis.  Our server was amazing; she expertly handled all of our tables and special requests with ease and a gracious smile. We had so much fun talking with each other. In fact, when it came time to call the meeting to order, it was a bit of a challenge!  We had a somewhat modified meeting and kept to the agenda, a little bit, shall we say…

Cindy H. gave us a full financial account of the salad luncheon. More than one person marveled at how she and her crew had expertly organized and accounted for every detail! (Remember how I said Women’s Club is an excellent chance to learn project management, event planning and leadership? If this is a skill you would like to learn, consider joining the Women’s Club!)  Leftover salads and salad ingredients were sold the following Sunday at coffee hour and nothing went to waste. We sold 222 tickets this year! Where will this money go? How do we spend our earnings?  Stay tuned!  More blog posts to come with stories of causes and ministries the Women’s Club supports!

At the June party, we also discuss possible future projects and activities that are taking place during the Summer. One of the local non-profits that St. Mary’s is involved with during the Summer months is called Families Moving Forward.  This is an organization that provides short term housing for families. Several of our ladies have been hosts for these nights. You can find more information here .

Another idea for outreach, that was introduced at the party, involved a group called Women Who Really Cook. This is a networking organization, known for their community work and hospitality. One of our members is also a part of this organization and suggested that we may be able to cook with them as a community outreach. You can find more info here

At our June party, we voted in new officers and also gave out awards.  The Women's
Club awards a porcelain egg to members who have had given many years of service.
